Law Day is a day full of events around campus, all aimed at raising money for a chosen charity. Last year we raised €3270 for the Mercy Law Resource Centre, a charity which provides free legal advice to people who are homeless.
In the past, the events which we’ve put on have included Blind Date in the Pav, Law Soc Plays Countdown and a 5-a-side football competition (a regular fixture and one of the most hotly anticipated sporting events anywhere in the world ever). As well as all these sorts of events, we go for good old-fashioned guerrilla tactics. Hordes of volunteers are released onto the streets of Dublin armed only with a collection bucket which they shake at passers-by in the hopes of shaming the money out of their pockets. In all likelihood, everyone will end up going drinking at the end of the day, so even if you hate charity for some reason you may as well join in for the promise of lovely cans.
Law Day can’t really run without volunteers, so we hope to get as many people helping as possible this year. It’s a great way to get involved with minimal commitment and to make some friends, all the while raising money for a great cause. If you’re eager to take part, or have any suggestions for Law Day events, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
Law Soc organises many other events during the year, such as table quizzes and movie screenings, to raise money for charitable organisations such as Amnesty International Ireland, Society of St Vincent de Paul and the Refugee Council of Ireland.
If you want to help out with any of these events, as a volunteer or you want to make a donation, don’t hesitate to get in touch!
